Natural Silver, Black Patina
The island of Vinalhaven is a very special place. Located twelve miles off the midcoast of Maine, it is the largest island in the state not connected by bridge. The beauty of this place makes it special on its own, but the people are what made it a truly unique place to grow up. Everyone has heard about small town charm, and the phrase ‘everyone knows everyone,’ and while both are true, it’s hard to explain the kind of community that is formed on an island. When someone is in trouble, we come together. Someone is diagnosed with a disease or has a terrible accident, a benefit supper is put together in days, and the entire town comes out to show their support. If there is a medical emergency in the middle of the night and the weather is too poor to fly, there are five lobstermen ready to make the perilous trip across the bay to get you the help you need.
When my father moved out to Vinalhaven in 1976 to build a house for his professor, I hit the lottery. Growing up in this community has not only shaped me as a person, but it has inspired me through my entire life. Every piece of jewelry I’ve created in the past 15 years has deep roots in the intrinsic beauty that Vinalhaven holds. It only felt natural that I bring the island itself to life in a piece that can be worn and treasured daily, allowing you to bring that island life feeling with you wherever your travels may lead.
