While lobstering has deep roots in my paternal family, sailing has a long history in my maternal family. My grandfather learned to sail from the captain who skippered his grandfather’s schooner. He went on to get his own schooner and spent many summers sailing around New England with my beautiful grandmother as his first mate.
The inspiration for these earrings originated from some custom earrings I made for a client last year. The compass rose dates back to the late 1300s, where they were used on nautical charts to display the cardinal directions, often in the form of a fancy star or sun. While the symbol was and still is to this day, a functional one, it has become an iconic decoration.
Metaphorically, the compass rose represents awakening and spiritual direction. It is known as a symbol of hope and discovery. Adorn yourself with these earrings and set sail for greatness!
Earrings measure 1/2″ across and are post style, please reach out to order them with hanging wires.
